Challenge Ten: Clean Up

My 10th Challenge:Clean Up

Cleaning picture

My next challenge is to clean. Don’t get the wrong idea here. I am not a candidate for the Hoarders show. The Accountant and I are everyday folks. We try to keep a tidy house, however sometimes we collect things or let small cleaning projects slide. My 10th challenge is to organize, clean or tidy up just one area in our home each day for the next 13 days.  It can be small cleaning project like emptying out my purse or larger one such as organizing the kitchen. I won’t be doing it all alone. The Accountant will be cleaning too. It will be a fun adventure!

The Practical Reason

I  have very curly hair. I usually let it air dry, but once every two years or so I decide to blow my hair dry. Last week, I decided to use the blow dryer.  I could not find it. I looked all over the house for it.  After a long search, I bought a new one at the store. Two days after forking out $20 for a new hair dryer,  I found my old hair dryer in a drawer full of seldom used items. At first, I was mad. After I got over being mad, I realized that I had lots of little projects and drawers that needed to be cleaned.

The Philosophy Reason

It just feels better to be more organized. It might even save me some money as I won’t have to buy another hair dryer.

Guest Post: Celeste

I would like you to meet my friend Celeste. Celeste has a great success story. Celeste overcame personal and health challenges to let go of over 50 pounds, finish nursing school and reclaim a life of happiness after a difficult family situation. She is an awesome person. Here is her wisdom for all of us.

Goals…Dreams…Accomplishment…We all have them! We all are working on something that we think will bring us peace, happiness and joy. But how can we be sure that the goal we are working on is worthy of our time and effort? How do we know we have followed the right path? At times the path we thought was the right one to follow abruptly ends, takes a sharp turn or makes a fork in the road and we have to choose what to do next.

Over our lifetime, we all will complete some goals, dreams and accomplishments. We all have different challenges and trials that will lead us down the path to “accomplishments.” Being a Hospice Nurse, I have gained a unique perspective on our mortal experience here on earth. I am starting to realize it is not how much money we have in the bank, how much education we attained or how beautiful our house is. Yes, these achievements bring a certain level of satisfaction to our lives but in the end the real accomplishment is how we overcame our trials in life. C.S. Lewis said, “Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny.” Stay focused and remember, anything worth having will have some bumps along the road but those “bumps” we experience are the best teachers in life!

You can read more about Celeste and her amazing work to build healthier lives at Heart to Heart Nursing. I am looking for other amazing woman and men who have a story to share about their dreams and goals.  If you are one of them, please contact me.

pancake

The Accountant and I stayed at a hotel for a vacation. The hotel had a complimentary breakfast with a great machine.  You pressed a button and a pancake appeared on the other side of the machine. The technical side of me knew that the pancake mix was in the machine. The kid side of me felt like I was in Star Trek. “Computer, give me a pancake”. Press button. Here comes my pancake.

My ninth challenge is to do a recreational activity every day. I’m not talking about going to the gym and working out for an hour. Although going to the gym is a good idea,  I’m using the 13 day challenge to add more physical fitness into my life. The criteria is that it needs to be something that I can enjoy while doing it.  I’ve noticed that people that are most happiest with their bodies use their bodies to have fun at activities.

I started this challenge three days ago. So far,  I’ve gone bowling, played in a swimming pool and went for a walk around a pretty lake.

Stories Wanted

I love stories, especially stories where someone accomplishes a goal. I started this blog so I could document my journey to become a better me. I know there are many people out there who have wisdom to share with me.  I would like to hear from you. What’s your story? How did you meet your goal? We could all learn from your journey. Write me your story at my13daychallenge@hotmail.com.  Your story just might get your very own blog post.

My new challenge will be coming out tomorrow!

Popcorn

The Accountant and I are doing a home renovation project. It smelled like a construction site so I decided to try burning a candle. The candle didn’t work. I tried opening up all the doors in the house. That didn’t work either. I finally came up with a perfect idea. I burned a bag of microwave popcorn. It worked wonderfully. I only have one problem. My whole house now smells like burned popcorn.

I need ideas for a new challenge. Please send me your ideas.
