Challenge Three: More Vegtables

Success

Thank you to every one who sent me a recipe. I know I can survive this challenge now. I was a bit worried, because my first green smoothie was terrible. I almost gagged. This one is good though.  You should try to make it at home.

2 cups of water

1/2 head spinach

1/2 head of romaine lettuce

3 sticks of celery

1 banana

1 pear

Put it in a blender and imagine all of those little vegetables making you healthy. It made enough smoothie for two so the Accountant got to drink some as well. I’ve discovered a trick. Things taste better in a fancy cup. Day 4 is now done. I have 9 more days left.

Reader Question: I know you are finished with the climbing stairs and eating at home challenges, but are you still doing those things?

My Answer: It is kind of funny. I’m  not consciously trying to eat dinner at home or climb stairs. However, I have caught myself since the challenges ended  taking the stairs instead of the elevator. I think having to focus on something so intently for 13 days makes it easier  to do it in my every day life. The Accountant and I have gone out to dinner once since the first challenge.  It felt like a special treat.

Challenge Two: Stairs

Obsessing

I’ve been climbing stairs for six days now. I’ve defiantly become more aware of stairs. They seem to be everywhere. Any time, I see a pair of stairs I make a mental note. I might want to come back and climb them. For example, we had to go to a large sporting good store. They had a lovely set of stairs with a large aquarium  to look at while you climbed. I climbed up and down 13 times while the hubby looked for his item. In the end, he decided it was too expensive, and I got to know the fishes in the tank next to the stairs very well. In case you are wondering, no one ask you what you are doing when you climb up and down and up and down.  It is very large sporting store and folks are too busy looking at their tents and fishing bait to care.

Challenge One: Eat Dinner at Home

What I learned from My First 13 Day Challenge

Thirteen days ago, I decided to become my own self-help guru. My first challenge was to eat dinner at home for thirteen days. Twenty-one days seemed too hard, but thirteen sounded doable. And it was doable. I did it. Here is what I learned on my first challenge.

Eating at home equals dishes.

Fast food sounds better at 5:30 p.m  after a long day of work than any other time.

It takes planning to accomplish any goal. Eating dinner at home requires planning.

I have a lot of food in my freezer that I don’t remember buying at the store.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post. I will be starting my 2nd   13 day challenge.  In case you wondered, the Accountant and I bought a make and bake pizza to celebrate that we survived the first 13 day challenge.100B1850

Challenge One Eat at Home

The last few days I have  been very contemplative about the state of the world. I keep thinking about the children I’ve taught over the years who are the same ages as the little ones who were shot. There is so much sadness and grief in this world.  There is also a lot of good and people who are saints and heroes.  It is hard to know what you will get when you go outside, but outside I must go. I can’t stay inside just because there is a part of me that is  afraid that I will be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  I’m not an expert on mental health issues, gun control, school safety and all of the other issue that have been brought up this weekend. I do know this though. We’ve got to ask the hard questions and find the answers that can heal our souls, homes, schools and nation.

I’m still working on my challenge to eat dinner at home. I’m on Day 7 now.  6 more days to go. The hubby and I will celebrate by going out to eat.
