Our tree is growing

Growing Tree

The hubby and I have been trying to grow a lemon tree for the last two years.  Our first attempt died last year during a frost.  Today,  I looked out my bedroom window and discovered that our lemon tree has bloomed with happy leaves. I was so excited. This one might actually yield fruit. I’ve imagined making lemonade and pies and fish flavored with my own lemon seasoning. It was wonderful to see the tree finally listening to me and growing a bit. It made my day to see it.

Choose Your Own Adventure

When I was a younger girl, I loved to read the Choose Your Own Adventure books. If you’ve never heard of them, let me give you a quick summary. The books had stops in the story where the reader made a choice. Does the character go with the aliens to their planet or does the character stay on Earth? The ending was based on the choices made during the story. I loved those books.  If I didn’t like what happened on page 98, I could go back and pick a different path. That path would take me to page 75 and a better ending for the character. Sometimes, I would read both endings and then decide which one was the best way to go.  Life isn’t like that. You don’t get to read both endings before making a choice. I’ve made some choices in the last few days about my health, my employment and the way I’ve been dealing with the challenges of life. It would be nice if I could skip ahead and know that I made the right decisions. I guess that is why we have faith. I’m moving forward and praying that I’m heading in the right direction.  I’m living my own Choose Your Own Adventure book minus the kidnapping by aliens.

Honesty

Phone

I lost my cell phone last week. I went for a walk and the phone fell out of my pocket without me noticing it.  I looked all over the house for my phone. I looked in my car. I tore my desk apart at work trying to find my phone. I called my phone about ten times, because the first nine times I didn’t hear anything ring. I was quite frustrated about the missing phone. Finally, I gave up and told the Accountant that it was time to replace my dinosaur cell phone with a modern one.  We set up a time to go look at new phones.

Two days later, I got a call from my dear Mom. She wanted to know if I had lost my phone. Walking home from school, an honest girl had found my phone.  She gave the phone to her mother who used the contacts in my phone to call “Mom”.  It made my day to get my phone back and to know that there are honest people in the world.

The future is now

pancake

The Accountant and I stayed at a hotel for a vacation. The hotel had a complimentary breakfast with a great machine.  You pressed a button and a pancake appeared on the other side of the machine. The technical side of me knew that the pancake mix was in the machine. The kid side of me felt like I was in Star Trek. “Computer, give me a pancake”. Press button. Here comes my pancake.

To Be Important

Grandpa picture

My Grandpa passed away last week. I went to his funeral yesterday. As my brave Grandma gave his life history, I kept thinking about the different accomplishments of his life. He accomplished a lot professionally and in various service works at church. All of that is commendable, however at the end of the day, I’m going to remember how he made me feel. I always felt beautiful, intelligent and important around him. Thank you, Grandpa. I’m going to miss you.

Stories Wanted

I love stories, especially stories where someone accomplishes a goal. I started this blog so I could document my journey to become a better me. I know there are many people out there who have wisdom to share with me.  I would like to hear from you. What’s your story? How did you meet your goal? We could all learn from your journey. Write me your story at my13daychallenge@hotmail.com.  Your story just might get your very own blog post.

My new challenge will be coming out tomorrow!

Popcorn

100_2275

The Accountant and I are doing a home renovation project. It smelled like a construction site so I decided to try burning a candle. The candle didn’t work. I tried opening up all the doors in the house. That didn’t work either. I finally came up with a perfect idea. I burned a bag of microwave popcorn. It worked wonderfully. I only have one problem. My whole house now smells like burned popcorn.

I need ideas for a new challenge. Please send me your ideas.

Signs

Yesterday, I had a stomach ache. It wasn’t serious enough to stay home from church, but I felt grouchy and sorry for myself as my stomach rumbled. As I was puttering around the house, I got an idea. I should make a sign to tell the world how I felt.

Sign

It was a brilliant idea. I started imagining sitting in the church pew with my little sign. Some nice lady might even cook me dinner, because that is what nice church ladies do.  My stomach ache eventually went away so I didn’t need to wear my sign. It got me thinking though. Things might be a lot easier if people wore signs and said what was really going on in their life.

What might your sign say?
